Onslow Co. District Attorney Releases Findings Into Fatal Officer-Involved Shootings

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The Onslow County District Attorney will release the results of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred this summer.

District Attorney Ernie Lee will update the media tomorrow at 10:30 a.m

Jammie Mitchell was shot and killed June 5 at his home on New River Drive in Jacksonville.

According to the police, the 39-year-old man barricaded himself in the house along with six other people.

The department's tactical team and negotiators helped the six people out a side window, and police said the Jacksonville man walked from behind and opened fire.

Officers then returned fire, striking and killing Mitchell.

The SBI investigated the shooting while two officers were placed on administrative leave, which is common practice in these shootings.
