Madison teen convicted of fleeing Beaver Dam police

(Beaver Dam) A Madison teenager has been found guilty of fleeing from Beaver Dam police. Dante Copeland Jr. pleaded guilty in the Fleeing case. Additional charges of “taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent” and theft were dismissed.

The 19-year-old's sentence was overturned and he was sentenced to 18 months probation. He must also serve a 30-day jail sentence with work release privileges.

Beaver Dam police were responding to an unwanted person call in January when the suspect, identified as Copeland, got into a vehicle that did not belong to him and fled the scene. Officers soon found the vehicle and a chase ensued southbound on Highway 151. Speeds reached 119 mph before police called off the pursuit.

Three days later, Copeland contacted Beaver Dam police and told them he wanted to turn himself in. He admitted his actions, the complaint says.
