Infill proposal for 1844 Church Street in Fairmount Heights, San Francisco

Infill plans have been submitted for a four-story residential development at 1844 Church Street in San Francisco's Fairmount Heights Historic District. The development could replace a single-family home with four apartments. TK Workshop is responsible for the application.

The 40-foot-tall building encompasses approximately 6,550 square feet, including four apartments, a one-car garage and a backyard. Unit sizes vary and include one-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom apartments. TK Workshop, also known as Troy Kashanipour Architecture, is responsible for the design. While detailed images have not yet been released, preliminary measures show a box-shaped residential infill with rear-facing balconies and a roof setback facing Church Street.

Fairmont Heights is a small hillside neighborhood between Noe Valley and Glen Park. According to the Glen Park Neighborhood History Project, Fairmount Heights is one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Francisco. Significant development work occurred in the 1880s and shortly after the 1906 earthquake. City records show the property, built in 1892, last sold in 2011 for $825,000. A historical resource assessment in 2013 determined that the existing structure had no historical significance.

The narrow lot is located along Church Street between 30th Street and Randall Street. The site is near the Upper Noe Municipal Recreation Center and two blocks from Dolores Huerta Elementary School.
