USD 379 Alerts Update | KCLY Radio

By Rhys Baker

USD 3-7-9 Clay County Schools has used SwiftAlert Solutions as its severe weather, emergency and attendance incident management system for over five years. As of October 1, SwiftAlert has decided to discontinue services to school systems. Matt Weller, Community Connections Coordinator for USD 3-7-9, explains, “That’s why the changes are being made this time of year. While that's not necessarily ideal, the nice thing is that some parents said they didn't receive certain messages. With this change, every parent who registers through PowerSchool will automatically receive messages. Instead of logging in, they have to log out.”

The district replaced SwiftAlert with School Messenger. This system added all guardian contacts from PowerSchool, the district's information management program. Last Thursday, an initial notification was activated to inform parents and guardians that they are registered for School Messenger Notifications. Weller says if you haven't received the message, now is the time to notify the district of the issue: “This means they are not registered with PowerSchool as a parent or guardian. If they think they enrolled through PowerSchool and still don’t believe they received the message, they need to contact the school building.”

The system also syncs nightly with the guardian's contacts within Powerschool. The school messenger sends all urgent notifications, lunch balances, attendance lists and report cards. If you are a parent or guardian and did not receive notification by Thursday, September 26, contact your student's school in the USD 3-7-9 district.
