Top Spot of the Week: Samsung, BBH Singapore, Director Rhys Thomas Get fit for a surfing vacation

BBH Singapore's new global Samsung campaign with Samsung Health and Galaxy AI tells the story of a young professional couple competing to get fit for a surfing vacation.

This film, titled “A Samsung Health Story: Racing to Fiji,” addresses Generation Z’s wellness dilemma and the fact that they often find health information overwhelming; In particular, BBH Singapore was inspired by young people referencing their “quarter-life crisis” on social media. This film tells the story of Stacey and Steve who decide to go surfing in Fiji, something they did five years ago but haven't done since they started. However, there is a problem: you have to get fitter first.

Using a range of Galaxy products powered by Galaxy AI, they train their fitness to prepare for the journey and compete playfully to encourage each other. We see how they compare their energy levels (a new feature in the Samsung Health app), how they record their runs and swims on their Samsung Galaxy Watches, how they keep trying to stay fit at work and on the way to work and make efforts in advance to improve the trip. However, when they get there, there is a funny twist and the film ends on a cliffhanger.

The ad is expected to be the first in a series that will explore the characters and their “world” in future episodes. This long version (two and a half minutes) of the spot delves deeper into storytelling in a new approach to Samsung's product campaigns, while the shorter edits focus on increasing awareness of specific features.

BBH Singapore also focused on the entertainment aspect of the spot; The film was directed by comedy specialist Rhys Thomas from Stink Films, who has an extensive TV background. Best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, Thomas also helmed several other acclaimed shows such as Documentary Now!, Comrade Detective and Marvel's Hawkeye.

The feature-length film and shorter spots will run in global markets such as the UK, France, Germany and Korea, as well as on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

Sascha Kuntze, Chief Creative Officer at BBH Singapore, said: “We wanted to do something entertaining to show that health doesn't always have to be serious and stressful.” Luckily, our customers embraced it and we were able to add comedic elements to it to tell a really playful story.”

Uncommon Creative Studio in London has created this film explaining another of their creations – a beautiful, sustainable furniture design: “The Rewear Chair” for eco-pioneer Ecover.

Over-washing our clothes is harmful to the planet. Anything that helps us wash less is a good thing. When you think about sustainability, you think about sacrifices for the planet. But the ecological choice doesn't have to be the difficult choice. Good design can transform innovation into beauty. With the right design, it's easy to make the right choice. And sometimes it's not even about changing our behavior. It's about embracing something we're already doing and recognizing the power in it.

“The Rewear Chair” pays homage to and re-evaluates the laundry chair – transforming a messy habit into a joyful, interactive and multi-sensory experience, encouraging us to wash less and think more consciously about our laundry habits.

Handcrafted from sustainable materials, The Rewear Chair embodies both beauty and purpose. It's made from wind-felled cedar wood, chosen for its natural deodorizing properties, ensuring clothes stay fresh even without constant washing. The armrests of the chair extend to hang up to a week's worth of clothes, allowing garments to air out in an organized and stylish manner.

The bespoke chair will be presented at Dutch Design Week, taking place in Eindhoven from October 19th to 27th.

Over the last decade, one in five (21%) Brits have adopted greener washing habits, such as increasing the number of washes between washes. A further six in ten Brits said they would be willing to change their washing habits to reduce their carbon footprint.

Based on the belief that sometimes the best laundry for the planet is no laundry, Ecover continues to… Read more
