The Wasson Peak Fire, which burned south of Crown King, grew by an acre and is now 18 acres in size. Firefighters will continue to secure the fire, begin mopping up and monitor interior fuels, which will continue to be consumed over the next few days. Resources Assigned: Prescott Hotshots, 2 – Type 2 crews, 1 – Engine and 2 Helicopters. The Wasson Peak Fire is burning in timber and brush. If necessary, aircraft are available to support firefighting.

The Muldoon Fire, burning on the north side of Towers Mountain, remains at 1 acre. Firefighters will continue to clean up and secure the perimeter of the fire by extinguishing burning fuels along the fire perimeter. Assigned resources – 1 – Engine and 1 – Helicopter. Due to the terrain and location, access to the Muldoon Fire is possible by UTV and on foot.

This is the final update on the Wasson Peak and Muldoon fires unless there is a significant change in fire activity.

Firefighters will use a full firefighting strategy to 100 percent contain the two lightning-started fires. There are currently no endangered or threatened assets or road closures.

Although both fires were started by lightning, we would like to remind the public to never leave your campfire unattended. Warm temperatures are expected throughout the weekend, so please do your part and practice prevention.
