Austin Ekeler gives an update on his injury

Aside from quarterback Jayden Daniels, you could argue that running back Austin Ekeler was the Washington Commanders' MVP through the first three weeks.

Ekeler made an impact as a runner, receiver, blocker and kick returner before suffering a concussion in last week's win at Cincinnati. The Commanders immediately flew to Arizona to prepare for Week 4, while Ekeler returned to Virginia as part of the NFL's concussion protocol.

Washington expelled Ekeler early last week.

In his absence, the experienced Jeremy McNichols served as the Commanders' replacement for Brian Robinson Jr. Both played well. Robinson rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown, while McNichols rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns.

However, Washington can't wait to get Ekeler back. When will that be?

Ekeler joined 106.7 The Fan's “Grant and Danny” on Tuesday and said he is on track to play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

“I'm continuing to complete and work through the concussion protocol processes, but I'm feeling more like myself today, so it's all a good sign that hopefully I'll be back this week,” Ekeler said Tuesday, via Audacy's Lou DiPietro .

“I'm aiming to be able to play and that's a good sign, especially when it comes to the head. You want to make sure everything is as it should be. It's not like an ankle that you can put some tape on, it's my brain I'm talking about, so I want to make sure everything feels normal and responds and is where it's supposed to be, and that's where they lie Things are definitely trending in that direction.”
