Reisinger has a career-best finish at the Butler Invitational

The Loyola women's golf team traveled to Indianapolis, IN, September 30-October 1 for the Butler Invitational hosted by Butler University and placed ninth out of 17 teams.

The Ramblers finished the 54-hole tournament with a total score of 891 strokes (305-290-296). Youngstown State University took first place in the tournament with 863 strokes (284-290-289).

Individually, the tournament ended in a tie between Youngstown State University sophomore Neeranuch Prajunpanich and Butler University third-grader Kelli Scheck with a total score of 211. Scheck finished in first place after a playoff with Prajunpanich.

For the Ramblers, fourth-grader Cate Reisinger finished in a tie for sixth place with a score of 216 (73-69-74), marking her best career finish. Her second round score was also the lowest scoring round of her college career.

Head coach Brandy Johnston said Reisinger's performance during the tournament was a source of positive momentum going forward.

“Cate had another strong performance this week,” said Johnston. “She plays with a lot of confidence on the greens and that shows in her results. I look forward to seeing what she can do at our home tournament next week.”

Rambler first-year Grace Hui finished in a tie for 40th place, while second-year Grace Durkin finished in 48th place with a total of 226 (76-75-75) points. One stroke behind Durkin was fourth-grader Jolie Brochu, who finished in a tie for 49th place with a total of 227 strokes (79-74-74).

Rounding out Loyola was sophomore Cassie Psuik, who finished the day with a total score of 230 (77-77-76) and a tie for 59th place.

As an individual player, first-year Madison Haugen finished in a tie for 71st place with a score of 235 (74-80-81).

Johnston said the team's performance early in the tournament limited its success, but praised the team's ability to come back after the first round.

“Overall, I felt like we did a lot of good the last two days,” Johnston said. “We struggled in the opening round in the back nine, which hurt us in the standings, but we bounced back in the second round with our best team result of the season. Today we fought and saved some pars, which was great to see.”

The Ramblers will stay home for their next tournament as they host the Loyola Parkinson Family Invitational Oct. 7-8. The tournament will take place at the Merit Club, a private course in Libertyville, IL.
