Undefeated Copenhagen girls tennis and a fight in the pool

COPENHAGEN, New York (WWNY) – The Copenhagen girls tennis team defeated General Brown 4-1 in a match between two of the Frontier League's best teams.

The Golden Knights have been impressive so far.

Heading into Tuesday's game against General Brown, Copenhagen was 10-0 ahead of Monday's win against Immaculate Heart.

Coach Juli Hebert says she has a dedicated group of tennis players.

“Well, it takes a group of great girls that give 100% every night at practice and they have fun playing, they enjoy tennis and the game, they really make a huge team,” Hebert said. “We hope it continues.”

“I’m very happy,” said player Rylee Presley. “I think we all worked hard to get here and I think we deserve it.”

“I feel like we all work very, very hard,” Acara Speicher said. “Last year was a bit tougher for us as we were all very fresh, so I think it's a bit deserved. We worked really hard.”

The Golden Knights have a wealth of experienced players, all of whom are returning from last year's team.

“I have four returning seniors,” Hebert said. “Everyone has returned from last year. I haven't lost anyone and that's my luck because every few years we have to rebuild. This year I was lucky. The girls came back. This year I’m going to be captained by Rylee Presley for the first individual competitions and she’s great.”

“We all train each other,” Presley said. “We are all here every day when we work. We've all experienced it before. Once we were the younger ones and this year we did really well.”

“Everyone works really hard and everyone trains about the same every day,” Speicher said, “so everyone has the same amount of time to get better.”

Looking ahead to the rest of the season and the Frontier League sectionals, Hebert believes her team can go far this year.

“I really think the girls have so much potential to do really well in the postseason,” she said. “Like I said, we’re just taking it game by game.”

It could be a season to remember for the Golden Knights…
