Man faces sentencing in connection with death of Lansing toddler

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – A Lansing man will find out Wednesday how much time he will spend behind bars in connection with the death of a toddler.

Avis Coward pleaded guilty earlier this summer to being a felon and possession of a firearm. It happened after 2-year-old King Mohammed got his hands on Coward's gun at a gas station on Dunkel Road in Lansing in 2023 and accidentally shot himself in the face.

The boy later died. His mother, who was with him at the time of the shooting, was sentenced to five years in prison.

Coward is scheduled to be sentenced today at 3 p.m
