Samsung Gallery app may have powerful AI search capabilities

Samsung is one of the leading drivers of mobile AI. The company is working hard to integrate artificial intelligence into its core products, services and apps to offer advanced features that make your everyday life easier. The Samsung Gallery app would benefit from this thanks to an AI-powered image and video search system that would be available with One UI 7.

Galaxy device users have been demanding improvements to the Gallery app for some time. Over the past few years, Samsung has been working to provide a better experience by incorporating new options and advanced AI-powered features with the help of Google. The next step for the company would be to make it much easier to search for files in the gallery.

One UI 7 may bring AI-powered search to Samsung Gallery app for Galaxy devices

Maybe you've always wanted to find a specific image and couldn't because it was hidden among thousands of memes that had accumulated over months (or years). You remembered what the picture was about, but you just couldn't find it. Well, it looks like such problems will come to an end next year. Tipster Ice Universe revealed on X that Samsung is working on optimizations for its Gallery app and “practical features related to AI search” with the One UI 7 update.

Samsung isn't the first company to work on something similar. This year, Google announced Ask Photos, Gemini's integration into the Google Photos app. This makes the app’s file search system much “smarter.” You can find specific images using a natural language prompt instead of relying on robot commands. For example, Ask Photos also lets you find and extract data from your images.

Apple Intelligence has its own AI gallery search

Apple also announced an AI-powered search system for the Apple Intelligence Suite. Additionally, it is possible that the Cupertino giant will roll out the feature to its users before Google and Samsung. One UI 7 won't be released until 2025 and Ask Photos is currently only available in Early Access. In the meantime, the first Apple Intelligence features will be available on eligible devices this month. Initially, European users will be prevented from accessing these features until further notice due to EU regulations.
