“This app will provide police with an innovative way to engage with Tuscaloosa residents and visitors and provide information quickly and efficiently to anyone with a smartphone,” Blankley said.

TPD said the app was developed by ThePoliceApp.com – a brand of OCV, LLC. – which specializes in developing mobile apps for police departments and public safety organizations across the country.

“Over 80% of people in the United States own and use smartphones as their primary means of communication,” said Kevin Cummings, partner and CRO of OCV. “Mobile apps offer authorities a better way to alert, inform and prepare the public. Apps enable public safety agencies to reach and serve their citizens where they are: on their smartphones.”

Blankley said one of the app's key features is the ability to identify people or vehicles of interest from photos the department shares, allowing citizens to play a stronger role in solving crimes.

Additionally, the department has also integrated the app's features to streamline interactions between school resource officers and students, parents and teachers. Parents can now use the app to contact their school supervisors directly if they have any concerns.

The app is free to download and is available on both Apple and Android devices.
