Galaxy devices stuck in bootloop after update

Select Galaxy owners are having a not-so-fun day today as the phones appear to be stuck in endless bootloops after an update to the SmartThings Framework system app. The affected devices include the Galaxy S10 series and the Galaxy Note 10 series. The full list of devices can be found below.

With system app updates, it's entirely possible for system files to become corrupted after new files are introduced, which can lead to the bootloop issue we're seeing here. The biggest problem for owners is that there is currently no apparent solution. The only solution to the problem is to completely wipe the device with no way to backup or restore your data. This could cause a major headache for users.

Devices reported as affected

  • S10
  • S10e
  • S10+
  • S10 5G
  • Note 10
  • Note 10+
  • Note 10+ 5G

Given the nature of the issue, it is safe to assume that Samsung is responsible for fixing the issue. We have no idea how they plan to do this, but we'll keep you updated if we hear anything. In the meantime, we recommend keeping an eye on the Galaxy subreddits and the official Samsung support forum. This is probably when Samsung would make its plans official.

If you own one of these devices, I would perhaps hold off on system app updates for a while for security reasons.
