New Report Highlights Surprising Details About ASSASSIN'S CREED SHADOWS' Delay

Just last week Ubisoft announced this Assassin's Creed Shadows was pushed back. The game is scheduled to release on November 15th, but has been delayed to February 14th, 2025.

At the time, Ubisoft issued a fairly lengthy statement explaining that the delay would allow the team to “continue improving the title.” The publisher cited its findings from the Star Wars Outlaws release – which was affected by numerous glitches and bugs – was one of the main factors in the decision. This has now become known Star Wars Outlaws It only sold around a million copies in its first month of release, so Ubisoft is probably hoping to avoid a similar situation.

However, in a new report from Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, the gaming insider detailed the drama going on behind the scenes at Ubisoft and even addressed the wild rumors that Yasuke is being removed from the game. Henderson confirms that Yasuke will not be removed from the game, but notes that the developer is “actively addressing many of the historical and cultural concerns.” He writes:

This includes changing some parts of Yasuke's story and his portrayal in the game, correcting architectural details, and ensuring that the game is rooted in history while still fitting into the Assassin's Creed universe.

Fundamentally, however, these are issues that should have been identified internally before the game's release, especially given Ubisoft's strict approval process. As for how these issues were able to leak out, I'm told that historical experts were brought into the project much later than usual for a project of this scale, and that there were misunderstandings between teams and cutting corners when approving assets, too Meeting deadlines played a role.

Henderson also addressed the need for additional polish and fixing some bug issues. He reports that the game is “currently not at the stage it needs to be for release,” which is quite worrying for those who are already worried Star Wars Outlaws.

As for how much needs to be addressed, he explains that there are some tweaks to the game's mechanics and other elements, including some issues highlighted in recent playtests. Now, delays due to bugs aren't necessarily new to the game development process, but the surprising thing is that the issues were apparently brought to Ubisoft's attention some time ago.

Of course, these are not new topics for the team. Seven developers working on the project said they have been pushing for a delay for some time and that their situation has even been heard at other studios in the company. Ultimately, however, the delay is due to a strict development schedule and the need to address the issues caused by the established schedule.

As it currently looks, Assassin's Creed Shadows is scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025.
