Man arrested for beating, threatening to throw wife down stairs: Beachwood police blotter

Domestic Violence: East Baintree Road

On September 25 at 7:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to a home where a woman walking her dog reported hearing a woman screaming for help from a driveway.

Inside the house a man opened the door. He stated that he had argued with his wife, but when asked, replied that there had been no violence.

While the police were talking to the man, his wife drove up. The woman was initially hesitant to say anything, but then said her husband threatened her and said he would kill her by pushing her down the basement steps.

She also said he hit her in the back of the head several times, causing her to get a bump on her head.

She begged her husband to let her leave the house, but he refused to let her go until she could finally escape.

As she tried to back out of the driveway, the man got in the way of the vehicle and then tried to open a car door.

When told he was under arrest, the man, who smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech, shouted obscenities at officers. He was handcuffed and led to a police car, where he then spat at an officer but missed. He then had to be forced into the back of the patrol car.

In prison, the 64-year-old man continued to insult the officers. Police treated a bleeding cut on his forearm.

The man's record shows he has been arrested multiple times for domestic violence in Illinois. He was again charged with domestic violence.

Theft from car: Chagrin Boulevard

On Sept. 24 at 10:05 a.m., a 27-year-old Avon man reported that someone searched the interior of his 2014 Honda Accord while it was parked overnight in the parking lot of The Vue Apartments, 23220 Chagrin Blvd.

The man believes he locked the doors of the car, but found no signs of forced entry.

The man's wallet and watch were stolen. Someone then used their credit card to make a $39 online purchase from Walmart.

Violation of protective order: Commerce Park Drive

On September 24 at 7:55 p.m., a man called 911 to report that he was with his sister at her workplace and that she had just received a disturbing visit from her ex-husband. The woman has a protection order against her former husband stemming from a previous incident of domestic violence.

When an officer went to the woman's workplace, he saw a car on Commerce Park Drive heading toward Chagrin Boulevard that matched the description of her ex-husband's vehicle.

A traffic stop was conducted and the man admitted to being at work. He said he wanted to explain something to his ex-wife, but also told her that he wouldn't say “any bad word about her.”

It later emerged that the man had called his ex-wife around 150 times throughout the day. He had also sent text messages to the woman's brother.

Police arrested the 58-year-old Bedford man for violating a protective order and driving with an expired vehicle registration.

Domestic Violence: Richmond Road

At 8:55 p.m. on September 28, a 12-year-old boy called police and said his mother had tried to break into his bedroom and that she had a knife. The boy said his mother was upset because she received a bad report about him from his school.

At home, police spoke to the boy's mother. she smelled like she had drunk alcohol.

The woman told a completely different story and stated that her husband was aggressive towards her before leaving the house. She said she was not injured on that occasion, but showed officers photos from September 6 on her cell phone showing her with a black eye after being beaten by her husband.

The boy's older brother told police that the mother was not mad at her 12-year-old son and that she tried to get into her son's room with a butter knife because he had locked his bedroom door to keep her out .

The woman's husband was not home while police were present, but officers were told that when he leaves he often parks nearby and stays in his car.

Police searched the surrounding streets and found the man sleeping in his car parked on Wimbledon Road. Police woke up the 46-year-old man who smelled of alcohol and arrested him for domestic violence.
