UFC 307's Kevin Holland Tired of Inactive 'Bums' Complaining About Fighters' Pay: 'I'm Just Active'

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Kevin Holland's approach to UFC competition is different than most. While “Trailblazer” certainly did his best in two separate divisions, he never seemed overly heartbroken about still not winning a title after 22 fights in the Octagon. Instead, Holland contented himself with cashing checks in two divisions and taking short-notice fights in two different weight classes, setting various UFC records for overall activity.

He's a modern-day Donald Cerrone when it comes to his activity, and the fact that he gets eight post-fight bonuses doesn't hurt his finances. Holland's style is certainly lucrative for anyone at any time, and he has no sympathy for fighters who only compete once or twice a year and then struggle to make ends meet.

“Half of these people are running around saying, 'We don't get paid enough.' We don't get paid enough. “We don’t get paid enough. “You don’t fight enough,” Holland said (via MMA Junkie). “At the end of the day, you want to get paid for shit you don’t do. Shit, that sounds like a bum to me. Remember, I wasn’t a bum like the rest of these guys.”

He continued: “I've had real jobs before, so I understand activity. I understand going to work so I can pay my bills, and I have a lot of bills. Respect to Alex [Pereira]. Alex did it, got the belt and stayed active. Lots of missions and they are all successful missions. Me? I’m just active.”

Holland's Iron Man approach to fighting is admirable, and it's true that many fighters wouldn't be up to the task of jumping weight classes on short notice. However, it is also true that many do not get this opportunity. The UFC roster is huge and the promotion only offers a limited number of events and fights each year. Most athletes are lucky enough to fight twice a year and may have to wait on the sidelines for months in hopes of getting an offer.

If there is no vacancy, there is no pay.

Ultimately, Holland returns to action this weekend (October 5, 2024), opening the main card of UFC 307 at 185 pounds against Roman Dolidze. It's his second middleweight bout this year and a win would likely move him back into the official UFC rankings.

There was no need for this middleman, just spray him with the bottle.

This is a total bummer, but an active fist fight is the perfect place for something like this!

Interesting phrase from “The Dream”.

Oh yes, I'm ready to watch Carlos Prates fight again!

Speaking of Fighting Nerds, Mauricio Luffy looks fast and violent on the pads. However, his absolute refusal to ever raise his non-punching arm to his chin is at least a little concerning…

A brief tussle between Khamzat Chimaev and Arman Tsarukyan:

If the tweet didn’t contain the word “Merab,” I would have no idea who was being mentioned here.

Briefs, rips and knockout clips

A Kevin Lee resurgence would be the story of the decade.

Worst dead leg ever?
