A family reunion for QB Marcel Reed

Marcel Reed is making some interesting headlines ahead of Saturday's home game against No. 9 Missouri.

The Texas A&M Aggies quarterback will have some family ties across enemy lines against the Tigers. His sister, Briah Reed, is the assistant director of on-campus recruiting for Mizzou, a key contributor to the program's success off the field. Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz is aware of the issues that a “conflict of interest” could bring against the No. 25 Aggies, something he spoke about in a recent call with the media.

“It created an interesting dynamic. At the end of the day, this is her brother and this is her blood, and we know she's doing her job here,” Drinkwitz said. “But family is always so important and that's why we don't want them to have any conflict of interest. In fact, I saw her in the hallway just a second ago. But I won’t let her in the copy room, and she certainly won’t keep an eye on the scouting report.”

Normally light-hearted and with a likable sense of humor, Drinkwitz made it clear that Briah would not be allowed during the portions of practice in which the Tigers are implementing their plan for the Texas A&M game.

“No, I wasn’t joking. No, Briah is great. “I actually didn’t know that was her brother until after the Florida game,” Drinkwitz said Wednesday. “If she wants to go to practice, I’m sure she could probably be out there for the first five hours just like the media.”

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko even joked that Briah was “scouting” the Tigers while speaking to the media during the weekly SEC conference call on Wednesday.

“I was hoping that maybe she could go out to practice and find out some secrets for us,” Elko said Wednesday. “I'm joking, of course. That would be pushing the boundaries. … “I think you just remember that there are a lot of family bonds in this game sometimes.”

The Aggies are currently 2.5-point favorites heading into Saturday's 11 a.m. CT kickoff in College Station.
