Man shot dead in downtown Atlanta, police searching for shooter

ATLANTA – Authorities say a 35-year-old man was shot and killed on Alabama Street in downtown Atlanta on Wednesday evening.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at 30 Alabama Street SW around 8:45 p.m. According to Atlanta police, officers found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Police reported the man was alert, conscious and breathing when officers arrived. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The man's name has not been released.

Although the shooting occurred near the Five Points MARTA station, the MARTA Police Department was not involved.

APD's Aggravated Assault Unit was still investigating details about the shooter.
