Governor McMaster provides Helene with an update following a meeting with President Biden

Gov. Henry McMaster provided an overview of the state's response to Hurricane Helene after meeting with President Joe Biden in Greenville on Wednesday.

Speaking at a medical needs shelter in the hard-hit Greenville area, McMaster confirmed that volunteers from Louisiana and Georgia have stepped up to provide disaster relief in South Carolina.

He also mentioned that Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp have pledged support for the state.

Former President Donald Trump has also offered to help “in any way he can.”

Senator Lindsey Graham, who spoke at the briefing, reported that the estimated cost of Hurricane Helene exceeded $100 billion.

He warned of the impact of port closures on the East and Gulf Coasts on the already devastated Carolinas.

If a port goes down, we go down too

We let our ports close in the middle of a disaster. I support people being treated fairly, but I urge President Biden not to let this continue. Hospitals will run out of supplies.

Biden is expected to conduct an air tour of the hardest-hit areas of North Carolina, including Asheville.
