EDUCATION DISTRICT VI REWARDS TEACHERS, STUDENTS, PARTNERS – Lagos State Government

The Lagos State Education District VI, Oshodi recently held its 18th Annual Merit Awards and Honors Day for teachers, non-teachers, students and dignitaries across Ikeja at the Eko Boy's Senior High School Hall, Mushin, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, with the motto “Promoting a growth mindset for greater success.”

In her welcoming address on the occasion, the General Teacher/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) of Education District VI, Dr. (Mrs.) Shareefah Ajoke Yusuf that the annual performance awards were intended to celebrate the large number of our staff and students who have achieved great success in their various job categories. She said the ultimate aim of the award is to reward excellence and create a motivating platform for others to achieve excellence.

She thanked Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, Honorable Commissioner for Education, Hon Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun and Executive Chairman Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Hon Olusola Ajala for the To create an enabling environment for education to thrive in Lagos State.

The Teacher General/Permanent Secretary equally appreciated the wife of the Lagos State Governor, ANCOPSS, Chairman of NUT, Lagos Internal Revenue Service, NGOs, churches and other philanthropists for supporting the awards ceremony. She urged teachers to pay attention to Mr. Abiodun Bamigboye’s talk on the theme of the event.

In his address, the Executive Chairman, Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Olusola Ajala, who also received the Evergreen award, said it was a great pleasure to be among teachers and thanked the TG/PS for providing the Platform for teachers, as the reward for good work is more work.

In her goodwill message, former Commissioner of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Alhaja, Sidikat Titilayo Smith, said she was delighted to be invited to the epochal event. “The reward for hard work,” she said, “is more work. You should try harder in your career and see students as your children, focus and do your best as God would reward you.”

Representative of the Chairman of Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Mrs. Folasade Coker, also appreciated all the teachers for their wonderful work in our various schools. “As we generate revenue in Lagos State, government ensures that salary is never missed on the 23rd of every month and government will continue to use this revenue to improve the infrastructure of our school as taxpayers’ money makes our schools proud did.”

While I pay tribute to the hon. Primary and Secondary Education Commissioner Coker called for continued collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and the six education districts to achieve greater revenue generation.

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Lagos State Branch, Comrade Hassan Akintoye, received the evergreen recognition award and thanked the TG/PS, Education District VI for including him among the dignitaries to be honored. He pledged his continued support for teachers across the state.

In his keynote presentation, the guest speaker, Mr. Abiodun Bamigboye, Commissioner II of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), whose talk focuses on fostering a growth mindset for greater success, explains the concept of growth mindset, compares growth and fixed mindsets and identifies the strategies to promote it a growth mindset; and lists the benefits of a growth mindset.

Highlights of the occasion included the award ceremony to teaching and non-teaching staff, dignitaries and scholarship holders and the award ceremony to the best students in WAEC and BECE for the 2023/2024 academic session in the district. Write a message.
