The Indian cricket team will open it ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 Season with a Group A game against New Zealand Dubai International StadiumUnited Arab Emirates on Friday.

South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh and Scotland make up Group B of the 10-team tournament.

The teams from both groups play against each other once in the group stage. The top two finishers in each group will then advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for October 17th and 18th. The final will be played at the Dubai International Stadium on October 20.

After their opening game against New Zealand on Friday, the Indian women will play their rivals Pakistan on October 6. With the match against Sri Lanka scheduled for October 9, India's final group game against Australia on October 13 could prove to be a crucial game.

Ranked No. 3 in the world, India is the second-best team in the group after world leader Australia. In the ICC Women's T20 Rankings, New Zealand is ranked fourth while Sri Lanka and Pakistan are placed seventh and eighth.

Furthermore, the Indian women's cricket team can take heart from their performance in the two warm-up games before the world showpiece. They comfortably beat 2016 champions West Indies and last year's runners-up South Africa.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur will lead a 15-member Indian team in the ninth edition of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. Players like Smriti Mandhana, Renuka Thakur and Shafali Verma are also in the team.
