A Texas man lands a huge, 750-pound alligator during an organized hunt

An unidentified Texas man has been credited with capturing what is believed to be one of the Lone Star State's largest alligators ever during an organized hunt at Choke Canyon Reservoir last month.

The massive 13-foot, 8-inch alligator, which weighed 750 pounds, was unveiled on the James E. Daughtrey Wildlife Management Area's Facebook page. The hunter was one of several selected in a lottery in the reservoir area, which covers 34,000 acres.

Each of the alligators captured were “bull alligators,” according to the post. A bull alligator is known as a dominant alligator – or alpha male – known for dominating a certain area and even killing other male alligators.

Choke Canyon Reservoir is apparently full of reptile species.

According to the Kansas City Star, alligator hunting rules in Daughtrey are strict compared to other parts of Texas, with hunters only allowed in one direction to hunt and kill the animal. You must first catch the alligator with a “hook and line” and then shoot it with a shotgun. Anything other than a shotgun is not allowed.

Only 7,000 of the 34,000 acres in Choke Canyon Reservoir are land.
