Skies will be clear on Thursday, with rain chances returning to southeast Texas this weekend

HOUSTON – Enjoy these clear skies now, as they won't last much longer in some parts of Southeast Texas for the rest of this week.

Forecast for Thursday:

Thursday brings more heat and a summer feel with highs in the mid 90s.

Precipitation forecast:

The chance of rain returns on Friday (20%) and increases on Saturday (40%). The chance of rain will be primarily for locations along and south of I-10. If you're north of I-10, you'll probably stay dry.

Where is autumn?

Unfortunately, much of the United States is still experiencing well above average temperatures for the rest of this week and, frankly, most of next! We're still seeing 90s and 80s here across Texas in areas that aren't typically that warm in late summer/early fall.

On the trail of the tropics:

The Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico are calm for now, but there is a 40% chance of a tropical system developing in the Gulf over the next seven days.

This weekend the tropical cluster will move into the Gulf of Mexico and may become more organized. We will keep you updated daily about the development of this system. Regardless, we will likely see some showers and thunderstorms this weekend as some tropical moisture moves across the area.

10 day forecast:

Our next small chance of rain is Friday and continues through the weekend. A cold front will move through on Monday, dropping our highs into the 80s and our lows into the lower 60s. There won't be a major cold front any time soon, but we're always on guard!
