The legendary general manager of the SF Giants could be welcomed back to the team

The SF Giants have hired a very familiar face, Buster Posey, as President of Baseball Operations. His hiring could mean another familiar face could be welcomed back to the team in former general manager Brian Sabean.

The legendary general manager of the SF Giants could be welcomed back to the team

Sabean was the Giants' general manager from 1997 to 2014. He was instrumental in building the Giants teams that enjoyed great success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He also deserves a lot of credit for helping to shape the teams that would win the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

After the 2014 season, he relinquished his role as general manager and Bobby Evans took over day-to-day operations while Sabean took on a more managerial role. Evans remained on the job for several years before being fired after the 2018 season, paving the way for Farhan Zaidi to take over as president of baseball operations.

Sabean remained under the Zaidi regime for a while, but it is clear that he was not happy and felt that he was not listened to at all. Sabean is very old school, which is at odds with Zaidi's new school approach. Eventually, he decided to leave and serve as an advisor to New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman.

Sabean has even gone so far as to say he no longer supports the Giants. He also takes issue with manager Bruce Bochy's departure from San Francisco, which he says was forced. It is clear that he was not a big fan of Zaidi's regime.

However, with Zaidi now gone and Posey having replaced him, we would imagine Sabean will be welcomed back into the team. Tim Kawakami from the San Francisco Standard Das asked Buster about his introductory press conference and Buster said that he had already contacted Sabean.

Bringing Sabean back would be a very smart move. If the Giants hired a smart and capable GM to handle more of the day-to-day, important details of the front office, and brought Sabean back into an advisory role so Posey would have an experienced veteran to lean on, They would put Buster in a great position to succeed.

Buster emphasized in his press conference how excited he was to be part of a team again. If he can add Sabean to his team, it will be extremely beneficial for the franchise and could help them return to their glory days.
