Authorities in East Texas are searching for suspects in a series of vehicle break-ins overnight

EAST TEXAS, Texas (KTRE) – Authorities in East Texas are searching for suspects in a string of vehicle thefts that affected at least four counties early Thursday.

According to Shelby County Pct. 5 Constable Josh Tipton, areas of Shelby, Panola, Rusk and Nacogdoches counties have been hit by vehicle thefts. Tipton said the incidents are currently believed to be related and are working to determine the identities of the suspects through surveillance footage.

The footage shown above is from the FM 1970 area of ​​Shelby County, where several vehicles were broken into around 2:30 a.m. At the end of the footage, a vehicle can be seen leaving the residence at some distance, which appears to be a light colored pickup truck.

Panola County Sheriff Cutter Clinton confirmed that some areas of his county near the Shelby and Rusk borders were affected by vehicle break-ins. According to Clinton, three vehicles were broken into, each of which was unlocked. Clinton said his office is working with Shelby and Rusk to identify the suspects.

Rusk County Sheriff Johnwayne Valdez said a vehicle was stolen in his county and there was another attempt.
