Gillingham 0-1 Grimsby Town – BBC Sport

Gillingham retained their top spot in League Two despite a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Grimsby.

The Mariners secured their second away win in four days as Kieran Green scored the only goal of the game.

The hosts were the better of the two sides, but Priestfield were silenced in the 21st minute when Green shot beyond the reach of Glenn Morris following a drive from Denver Hume.

The visitors defended resolutely and limited Mark Bonner's team to very few chances.

However, the Gills should have equalized just before the hour when Elliott Nevitt failed to convert Jayden Clarke's cross from close range.

Gillingham dominated possession in search of an equalizer but failed to overcome a courageous Grimsby side.

In the final phase, substitute Tim Dieng was close for the hosts, but his shot from a few meters went just wide of the goal.
