Youngest players in the MLB: Where star rookies Jackson Chourio, Jackson Holliday and Jackson Merrill rank

This year's rookie class was all about the Jackson 3.

If your name was Jackson and you were a rookie in the MLB this season, chances are good that you had a sensational start to your professional career. The trio of Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio, Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday and Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill represented a strong rookie class in 2024.

This year, the rookies didn't just shine in rebuilding the clubs. Some of the players mentioned above were also instrumental in getting their teams into the most important time of the year and wasted no time trying out October baseball at the MLB level. All three Jacksons are in the postseason as Milwaukee, Baltimore and San Diego have all punched their tickets to the 2024 playoffs.

Last year, the Rangers saw young Evan Carter help Texas to a World Series title? Will the same thing happen to any of the clubs that have a star rookie?

Here's a look at the youngest players of the MLB season and which ones are in the postseason.

Youngest players in MLB 2024

Here are the youngest players on an active MLB roster or Major League injured list at the end of the regular season:

player Age (birthday) team
Jackson Chourio 20 (March 11, 2004) brewer
Jackson Holiday 20 (December 4, 2003) Orioles
Junior Caminero 21 (July 5, 2003) Rays
Jackson Merrill 21 (April 19, 2003) Padres
Eury Perez 21 (April 15, 2003) Marlins
Jason Dominguez 21 (February 7, 2003) Yankees
James Wood 22 (September 17, 2002) Nationals
Javier Sanoja 22 (September 3, 2002) Marlins

Jackson Chourio, 20 years old

Chourio is currently the youngest player in the MLB. The Milwaukee star is the only representative born in 2004 to reach the playoffs at the age of 20.

The outfielder was one of the favorites to win NL Rookie of the Year, but he will likely fall short of Merrill and Skenes. Chourio hit .275 with 21 home runs, 79 RBI and 22 stolen bases in his first regular season with the Brewers.

Jackson Holliday, 20 years old

It was a difficult start to the 2024 season for Holliday. The No. 1 pick in the 2022 MLB Draft began the season in the minors but was quickly called up to make his MLB debut in early April. He lasted just 10 games before being sent back to Triple-A, but was recalled again in late July.

Since then, the son of former MLB slugger Matt Holliday has slowly shown he's finding his rhythm. He finished the regular season with a .189 batting average in 60 games, with five home runs, 36 hits and 23 RBI, but the 20-year-old now has a chance to finish the season on a high note with playoff baseball in Baltimore.

Jackson Merrill, 21 years old

Merrill couldn't have asked for a strong rookie debut. The centerfielder was sensational in his first season with the Padres, batting .292 with 24 home runs, 90 RBI and 16 stolen bases. Merrill was a key cog in San Diego rebounding from the offseason loss of Juan Soto.

Without Skenes' dominance on the mound, Merrill would run away with NL Rookie of the Year honors. Instead, it will be exciting to see who voters also agree with. Meanwhile, at just 21 years old, Merrill has a chance to make a breakthrough with the Padres.

Jason Dominguez, 21 years old

Dominguez spent much of the 2024 season in the minor leagues, but he was called up to the majors in the final month of the season, where he saw action in 18 games for the Yankees as the New Year prepared for the postseason.

The outfielder from the Dominican Republic had 10 hits in 87 at-bats this season, which spanned 18 games. In his small sample size, he managed two home runs and four RBI. The 21-year-old could see action in the postseason as Alex Verdugo's spot in left field is far from assured.

Youngest player in MLB history

The youngest player to ever play in a World Series was Freddie Lindstrom. According to Guinness World Records, he was 18 years and 318 days old when he played for the New York Giants against the Washington Senators in 1924.

Youngest player to win a World Series

It doesn't happen often, but there have been a few teenagers who won a World Series.

Willie Crawford holds the record as baseball's youngest champion, as he was 18 years old when he won the 1962 MLB championship with the Dodgers, according to Statmuse. He is the only 18-year-old to ever achieve this and only one of four teenagers to win the title.

Just last year, Evan Carter was among the top 10 youngest players to ever win a World Series, as he was 20 years old when the Rangers won the franchise's first championship.
