Terps in the NFL: Diggs, Moore and Johnson all score

In the NFL's Week 4 slate, Maryland football's two most prominent alumni both scored game-winning touchdowns that ultimately made the difference in one-score victories.

In the Houston Texans' 24-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Texans and head coach DeMeco Ryans continued to use wide receiver Stefon Diggs in unique ways.

Diggs caught five of his nine targets for 68 yards against Houston's division rivals. But a week after throwing the first completed pass of his career, Diggs again found a new way to contribute, reversing fields on a first-quarter handoff and sprinting in for a 6-yard touchdown. That score – the Texans' first on Sunday – was Diggs' first career rushing touchdown in 139 NFL games played.

Similar to Diggs' score, a touchdown by Chicago's DJ Moore in the Bears' 24-18 victory over the Los Angeles Rams was the result of an athletic play by the wide receiver.

Moore finished the game with just three catches and a season-low 22 yards. But his toe-tapping attempt on a 9-yard touchdown, the only passing TD of the game, was enough to send the Soldier Field crowd into a frenzy.

With Moore and Diggs each scoring a touchdown, Sunday marked the first time since Week 5 of last season that both Maryland graduates reached the end zone on the same weekend. This week is best remembered for Moore's outstanding performance against the Washington Commanders, where he hauled in eight catches for a season-best 230 yards and three touchdowns on Thursday Night Football.

For the second straight year, Buffalo running back Ty Johnson scored for the Bills in a primetime matchup. In the third quarter of Buffalo's 35-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Johnson ran outside toward the left pylon for a 3-yard touchdown. Johnson's score was the Bills' only touchdown on Sunday Night Football and the first time since 2021 that the sixth-year defender scored in consecutive weeks.

Los Angeles Chargers rookie cornerback Tarheeb Still made his NFL debut on Sunday and showed renewed versatility in the Chargers' 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Entering the game in the second quarter blitz, Still assisted on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' third-and-long sack. He still had zero sacks in his final two seasons at Maryland, but added half a sack in his first NFL game for a total of five tackles.
