NEW YORK, Oct. 02, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In honor of International Wrongful Conviction Day, Jason Flom, CEO of Lava Media and founding board member of the Innocence Project, and Tony Abrams, founder of Four Hundred, will co-host a private screening of Nice Jackson at Republic Studios in NYC. This award-winning documentary tells the miraculous, true story of Rickey Jackson, who at the time of his release and exoneration in 2014 was the longest-time wrongfully incarcerated person in U.S. history, having spent 39 years on death row and in prison for crimes , which he did not commit. Following the screening, there will be a live Q&A in the evening with Mr. Jackson, director Matt Waldeck and Flom.

Nice Jackson is a bold, first-hand account of what life was like for a wrongfully incarcerated man in the U.S. legal system. Directed by Waldeck, who worked closely with Mr. Jackson for eight years, the film pushes the boundaries of the documentary form as Mr. Jackson returns to the prison he entered as an innocent man in 1976. The film features improvised re-enactments alongside professional actors and real-life characters from the conviction itself – including the witness whose false testimony said Mr. Jackson was just 82 days away from death in the electric chair in Ohio.

An Oscar-qualified theatrical release for Nice Jackson will begin Oct. 4 in Los Angeles to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Jackson's exoneration. The opening screening is open to the public and co-hosted by Waldeck's Zodiac Features and the Los Angeles Innocence Project (LAIP). It includes a meeting with Jackson and Waldeck as well as a panel discussion with LAIP Director Paula Mitchell, LAIP Founder and Exoneree Andy Wilson and Exoner Maurice Hastings. Waldeck has promised that the entire net proceeds from Nice Jackson's The film's release in Los Angeles benefits legal aid for the wrongfully convicted.

Nice Jackson is a Zodiac Features production presented by HELP (Hope, Educate, Love and Protect, an organization founded to educate and support children in rural Africa) in association with Zodiac Holdings, starring Rickey Jackson, Mario Beverly and Devito Parker Jr. in the lead roles. Producers include Jackson, Waldeck, Ben Hecht, Travis Killian and Jillian Wolstein. Lava Media co-founders Jason Flom and Jeff Kempler are executive producers of the film.
