MVP favorites, surprise teams and more

After five weeks of play, we have reached the midpoint of the 2024 Texas high school football season. With district play in full swing across the state, it's time to press pause and recognize some of the best teams and performers of the year so far.

Some local stars have made early-season MVP cases with eye-popping stats in the first five weeks.

Standouts include Highland Park quarterback Buck Randall, North Crowley wide receiver Quentin Gibson, Duncanville quarterback Keelon Russell and more.

While the usual suspects have dominated so far, which schools have caused a surprise in the 2024 season? Teams in 6A like Denton Guyer, Euless Trinity, Flower Mound and Arlington stood out the most. And in 5A it was West Mesquite, Prosper Walnut Grove, Carrollton Creekview and Arlington Seguin.
