Chael Sonnen vouches for Renato Moicano vs. Justin Gaethje after UFC Paris

Renato Moicano vs Justin Gaethje? Chael Sonnen says it's 'obvious'

On his YouTube channel, Chael Sonnen shared his belief that the UFC has a layup with a chance of booking Renato Moicano against Justin Gaethje (h/t MMAJunkie).

“Moicano’s next fight is Justin Gaethje,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. “That would be exactly my answer. To me it’s completely obvious.”

Sonnen went on to say that unlike Dustin Poirier, the UFC has more freedom in booking a top lightweight like Gaethje.

“If you got past Dustin Poirier, you could do anything,” Sonnen said. “Fight for titles, main events, there wouldn’t be an argument that you couldn’t fit in well. And Justin Gaethje brings the same accolades, but there's a difference: You don't have to be as careful about booking Gaethje because he's not in a situation where he says my next is my last.”

Gaethje has not competed since his devastating last-second knockout loss to Max Holloway in April. It remains to be seen whether or not UFC matchmakers agree with Sonnen's take on booking the Moicano fight.
