The Giants' Malik Nabers update isn't promising, with Devin Singletary adding to the injury woes

The Giants could be without almost all of their offensive production on Sunday.

Head coach Brian Daboll didn't give a particularly optimistic update Wednesday on rookie receiver Malik Nabers, who suffered a concussion in the team's 20-15 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday night. Nabers is not yet doing any physical activity during practice and is still in the “early stages” of the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Given that Nabers had an extension in Thursday's last game with the Giants, it is concerning that he has made little progress in the protocol.

Nabers, whom the Giants selected No. 6 in the draft, suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of Thursday's loss. He tried to catch himself with his feet while making a catch near the sideline, but failed and subsequently hit his head on the ground.

“The guys that are out here practicing are going to go ahead and take over [Nabers’] representatives,” Daboll said. “Jalin will give that [Hyatt] He did more reps today than he did in practice. Everyone has to be ready to go.”

Nabers has carried much of the offense so far. He leads the NFL with 35 receiving yards, is second with 386 receiving yards and is third with three receiving touchdowns. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Nabers' 35 receptions are the second-highest four-game total to start a career in league history.

In total, the Giants have 881 receiving yards, meaning the Nabers' 386 represent 43.8 percent of the team's total.

If he can't play on Sunday, second-year receiver Jalin Hyatt – last year's third-round pick – should take on a larger role. Hyatt's lack of playing time has emerged as one of the biggest storylines early in the season – he has no catches this year and has only been targeted three times, playing just 19 percent of the team's snaps on offense.

And running back Devin Singletary's status for Sunday is now uncertain.

He did not practice on Wednesday as he is dealing with a groin injury sustained in Thursday's loss.

Singletary, who signed with the Giants last offseason, has completed 56 carries for 221 yards and two touchdowns. While these numbers aren't obvious, Singletary's 221 rushing yards represent 64.8 percent of the team's total 341 rushing yards.

So the Giants could very well be without nearly half of their receiving production and well over half of their field production. An offense that is the third-worst in the NFL, averaging just 15 points per game, could be getting a lot thinner.

If Singletary is out Sunday, rookie Tyrone Tracy — a fifth-round pick — should get the majority of his carries.
