Lille vs Real Madrid live score: UEFA Champions League results, updates, stats as Jonathan David stuns Los Blancos

Jonathan David held his nerve from the penalty spot to give Lille a 1-0 half-time lead against defending champions Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

The 15-time European champions are unbeaten in all competitions this season but faced a well-drilled Bruno Genesio team at the raucous Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Kylian Mbappe was only fit enough for a place on the Los Blancos bench, which meant Endrick made his first appearance. The Brazilian teenager almost made sensational use of his chance, making an electrifying solo run before firing too close to Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

Chevalier's opposite number Andriy Lunin did well to deny David's opponents with a double save in the 25th minute, but had no answer in first-half stoppage time after a review of the pitch monitor confirmed that Eduardo Camavinga had handled Edon Zhegrova's free kick .

Halftime

Lille put in a display of supreme tactical discipline to limit Real Madrid to few chances to score and they probably deserved the lead that David gave them from the penalty spot just before half-time. Mbappe remains on the bench for Los Blancos. How many minutes does he have in his legs?

45 mins+4: Almost an immediate response from Real Madrid. Chevalier appears to be in no man's land, but does enough to fend off Endrick

45 mins+3: GOAL!!!!! David sends Lunin in the wrong direction! Cool as you like, chaos at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy

45 mins+2: David has to reposition the ball. How are your nerves?

45 mins: Maurizio Mariani enters the screen…. Penalty against LILLE! Camavinga, the man, punished. to take David.

44 mins: Zhegrova's punch hits a crumbling Madrid wall. The Lille players are appealing to handball en masse. A VAR test is currently taking place.

42 mins: Zhegrova drives Lille forward again and Rüdiger brings down Cabella from about 20 meters away. Free kick for Lille in shooting position. Zhegrova about it.

39 mins: Free kick on the right for Lille. Zhegrova will get this problem under control. Madrid will get rid of it with minimal effort this time.

37 mins: Militao now starts an attack and releases Carvajal with a nice pass. The full-back looks for Bellingham, but Santos gets there first.

35 mins: David chases a fast ball and Militao does a great job of bringing down the Canadian start. Lunin gets to the ball before Bekker, which he throws into the air. Bodies everywhere in the Madrid penalty area, but none of the incidents are a penalty.

33 mins: Andre mishandles and crosses the top of the Madrid crossbar. It looks like he would have been warned for offside if that had happened.

32 mins: Camavinga throws a ball over the Lille defensive line and Endrick's eyes light up. Chevalier recognizes the situation excellently, catches the ball on his chest and shoots a volley clear. Not pretty, but very effective.

29 mins: Carvajal's cross causes a little chaos in the Lille penalty area. Chevalier appears to chide his defense attorney for not responding to his call. The downside of a loud home atmosphere. In any case, Genesio's men survive.

25 mins: Corner to Lille on the right, Rüdiger finishes. Zhegrova tries again David found space at the far post… brilliant stop from Lunin. The Ukrainian shouldn't have had a chance, but he did well to keep out the header before reacting sharply and blocking David's follow-up shot.

19 mins: Brilliant solo run from Endrick. Lille has possession in their own half and Vinicius cleverly creates space for his younger compatriot. Endrick shows electrifying pace and impeccable control to force the Lille defenders into his slipstream before firing at Chevalier.

18 mins: Another Lille attack with a few more balls from Santos, the first against David again before he nestles friendly in Lunin's gloves.

17 mins: Lille played well here and had a clearly developed plan. Santos rushes forward from the right-back and delivers the first cross to David, who controls him on the chest but cannot get the ball under his control.

16 mins: Bellingham, still looking for his first goal of the season, aims for the top corner from the edge of the box and shoots over. There Alexsandro bravely threw himself into the line of fire.

11 mins: Carvajal pushes the ball towards the Lille penalty area. Diakite recognizes Endrick's run, but trips over the youngster and collides with goalkeeper Chevalier. A painful looking centre-back but he seems ready to move on.

6 mins: Vinicius cuts inside and shoots into the goal. Chevalier comes in well and holds the ball despite the greasy surface.

5 mins: A poor save from Alexsandro goes straight to Camavinga, but Madrid chooses to keep the ball calm and build up rather than go for the throat. Calming this exuberant crowd in the name of the game; David et al. giving the chance to break at high speed is not the case.

We're on the road amidst a haze of fireworks smoke.

3 minutes before kick-off: Here are the players. The home fans cheer at the crescendo of the competition anthem. The locals are enthusiastic about it.
