The Padres got off to a great start in Game 1 with pitcher Michael King throwing seven shutout innings with 12 strikeouts (against no walks), giving the Padres a 4-0 win. Third baseman Fernando Tatis Jr. sparked the San Diego offense with a two-run home run that traveled 415 feet in the first inning. The Padres chased Braves starter AJ Smith-Shawver after 1.1 innings, while King and relievers Jason Adam and Robert Suarez combined for a shutout with 15 strikeouts.

Braves left-hander Max Fried (11-10, 3.25 ERA) will look to get his team back into the series in Game 2. He will be tackled by San Diego right-hander Joe Musgrove (6-5, 3.88 ERA).
