New San Francisco Giants executive is excited and looking forward to the next hire

The San Francisco Giants made a major breakthrough by firing Farhan Zaidi and replacing him with Buster Posey in the role of President of Baseball Operations. Many of Posey's former teammates have supported the move, but since he has very little experience, it's a pretty big unknown. Regardless, a large portion of the San Francisco fan base was positive about the move, and his introductory press conference generated great anticipation for the future.

After his press conference, Posey spoke with NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic for the Giants Talk podcast and discussed his excitement about his new gig and his thoughts on hiring a new general manager.

“I’m just happy to be part of the team again. “Hopefully I’ll be a part of supporting the team on the field and the next great team in San Francisco,” he began.

Posey knows all about great teams in the Bay Area. As a member of the Giants, he won a Rookie of the Year title, an MVP title and three World Series and was even a member of a 107-win club. He wanted to take on the new challenge and will now be involved in the team's everyday life.

“There are a lot of good things. There are a lot of positives too, in Ramos came a guy who looked like he could potentially be an everyday guy for years to come. Fitzgerald was truly impressive. Birdsong struck out 10 batters in one at-bat “You've got Harrison, Roupp looks good, I could name a handful of other guys that look very promising,” he said of the team as currently constructed.

However, he continued and continued to say that the goal is to always be in the playoffs. This team has solid bones, but it looks like Posey wants to continue to improve. He won't do this alone but will try to hire a GM.

“As soon as I'm done here, I'll go downstairs or find a spot somewhere and sit down with some of the guys that are here and start breaking some of this down. So there is actually no honeymoon period. It's a hit.” “As I mentioned, I'm trying to find a general manager who has some of the qualities that we value highly in the organization,” he said this coming offseason.

The GM appointment will be a big deal as it will officially usher in the Buster Posey era. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle says names under consideration include former Giants GM Brian Sabean, assistant GM Jeremy Shelley, Posey's former agent Jeff Berry and former Miami Marlins manager Kim Ng.

The hire itself excited fans, but now it's time for Posey and Co. to get back to the basics of baseball.
