John Amos Cause of Death: Heart Failure

According to a death certificate he obtained, John Amos died of heart failure in a hospital in Inglewood, California People.

No autopsy was performed and the certificate states that the actor's remains were cremated on August 30, nine days after his death. According to the outlet, Amos' son Kelly Christopher reported his death to Los Angeles County.

On Tuesday, Christopher announced the death of Amos at the age of 84, saying he died of natural causes on August 21. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved around the world,” KC Amos said in a statement The Hollywood Reporter. “Many fans consider him their TV dad. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding work as an actor on television and film.”

On Tuesday, Amos' daughter said she learned of her father's death at the same time the public did. “I'm at a loss for words… Our family received the heartbreaking news that my father, John Allen Amos Jr., transitioned on August 21st,” Shannon Amos shared on social media, hours after her brother KC publicly announced her father's death. We are devastated and have many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, as we, like so many of you, found out about it through the media.”

Before Amos's death, a rift arose between his children, who publicly fought over his care and inheritance. A 2023 feature from The Hollywood Reporter stated that Shannon accused KC of elder abuse, misuse of finances and imitating his own father. KC has denied all allegations.
