An elderly man died more than 47 years after he was shot in East Harlem – and now his death has been ruled a homicide, authorities said this week.

Paul Dawkins was shot in the chest about 6:40 a.m. on East 103rd Street near Second Avenue on Jan. 15, 1976, cops said.

Dawkins, who lived a few blocks from the crime scene, died from his injuries on April 22, 2023, police said. He was 79.

The city medical examiner's office ruled Dawkins' death a homicide, authorities announced Tuesday evening.

The NYPD could not confirm the circumstances surrounding the decade-long shooting Wednesday or how Dawkins' death was related to the shooting.

No arrests have been made and no suspect information is available.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
