Exclusive; Second anniversary of the death of missing Jefferson Davis man Rasheem Carter

TAYLORSVILLE, Miss. (WLBT) – The pain of losing her son is still unbearable for Rasheem's mother. Tiffany Cater says what haunts her even more is that she doesn't know all the details surrounding his gruesome death.

“Every day that he hasn’t been here for 730 days has been a struggle for me,” Tiffany Carter said.

His aunt also says: “He had a lot to do until October 2, 2022.”

According to authorities, the 25-year-old was last seen on October 2 outside the Super 8 Hotel in Laurel, Mississippi.

He had recently moved to Taylorsville, just an hour and a half away, for a new job with Georgia Pacific.

His mother, Tiffany Carter, believes he was deliberately killed.

She says before the tragic events unfolded, she received text messages from Carter saying he was having problems with the people he worked with.

He continued that if she didn't hear from him, those colleagues were responsible.

“He would never have talked to his mother because he talked to her every day. He wouldn’t have called her,” said his aunt Felica Kaho.

Remains believed to be those of Carter were found in a wooded area in Smith County on November 2, 2022.

The case caught the attention of civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, who now represents the family.

They held several press conferences hoping to find justice and the truth about what happened.

Carter's mother wants whoever is responsible to know this: “I personally want you to know that you live by the sword, you die by the sword, and that's biblical.” That's not me, that is the right word. God will treat each person according to the things they do. I don't have to hate you, I don't have to kill you, I don't have to do what you did to me. My life will never be the same.”

To date, authorities have not been able to determine the cause of death for the 25-year-old.

Smith County Sheriff Joel Houston says the case has since been turned over to the MBI and FBI.

There are currently no new developments or findings in this regard.
