Kayla Harrison is ready to compete in the co-main event if necessary

Salt Lake City – UFC bantamweight Kayla Harrison is close to capturing the title in just her second fight with the promotion, but she must first get past Ketlen Vieira on Saturday night at UFC 307.

“I think Ketlen is a good fighter. I think she is versatile. She has a black belt in judo, which people have talked to me about. A jiu-jitsu black belt,” Harrison told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.

“I believe in my heart that I am better off everywhere. On the feet, on the ground, in wrestling. It’s going to be a long night for Ketlen.”

Harrison (17-1) could even get a chance at the title at the last second. She hasn't been officially named a replacement, but it's very likely she would take part in the co-main event if one of the fighters were to drop out.

“I haven’t officially heard anything like this from the UFC, but from what I know, if anyone messes up, I will intervene,” she said.

The possibility is also on the minds of UFC bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington, as she has said in interviews that she has also been training for the possibility of fighting Harrison on fight night. Pennington said she had a feeling Julianna Peña wouldn't make it to fight night.

“I was surprised to hear that, but I think there's something there… I kind of feel like that too. That was smart of her, but I mean, it doesn't matter. You could spend the rest of your life preparing for me,” she said.

“You won’t be ready.”
