SCORE: Climax 1, Gardner-Webb 1
RECORDS: High Point (4-4-3, 1-0-1), Gardner-Webb (2-8-3, 0-1-2)

Head coach Aaron McGuinness: “We had to be more clinical in front of goal. They scored in a spot that we had identified as their danger spot and we weren't good enough in that crucial moment and in that set piece. We are all aware of this and we know that we can do it.” We have to live, learn and grow from it. We will be better.

In the 68th minute, the Panthers ended a scoreless game Sabba Haghgoo with crossed chest Kasey Resker in the right corner. It was the breakthrough HPU had been waiting for all night as the home team outscored the Runnin' Bulldogs by 23 shots.

Freshmen Haghgoo and Resker both started the second half after not being in the starting lineup. It was Haghgoo's second goal of the season and Resker's second assist.

Gardner-Webb scored the Panthers' equalizer a minute later after a foul led to a set piece. The Runnin' Bulldogs perfected it when Julianna Jatkola headed the free kick to Lily Stegall, who pushed it past Aubrey McKessy. It was McKessy's first goal allowed since Sept. 8 at UNC Wilimington.

It was Gardner-Webb's only shot on goal as the Panthers had 13 hits between the crossbars. Runnin' Bulldogs keeper Stephanie Liu made 12 saves, many of which were impressive and kept the Panthers looking for more.

Haghgoo had the only goal, but also had other good chances to score Emily Mashinski, Peyton Gilmore, Tessa Carlin And Lindsey DeHaven. Freshmen Caroline Dewey made her debut as a central defender.

Next: The Panthers travel to Winthrop for an away game on Tuesday, October 8th at 3 p.m
