El Metro Transit is launching a new real-time bus tracking app to avoid wait times and late buses

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – El Metro Transit has launched a new mobile app designed to revolutionize the way Laredo residents navigate our city’s public transit.

The app is called Transit and provides real-time updates on bus locations and arrival times.

Rudy Garcia, a resident of Hamilton Senior Apartments, says he relies on the bus for almost everything, from doctor's appointments to grocery shopping to visiting his sister.

He says the app will be of great help as he has missed the bus in the past or been late.

“I live right here and I can just check my phone to see what time it is, then I can just walk one way or the other and I don't miss my bus or have to wait for it,” Garcia said.

Depending on your device, installing the Transit app is easy: just go to the Google Play Store or App Store, search for the app and install it.

The app also includes features such as trip planning, service alerts and step-by-step transfer instructions.

This means passengers can receive notifications of disruptions or changes to their route, so they are always informed and can adjust their plans accordingly.

Oscar Gomez, Director of Marketing at El Metro Transit, says they are excited about this app feature. Currently, the only way to communicate with their drivers is by posting on their social media pages.

“For people with disabilities, you could check whether the bus stop you want is accessible to them. If it is wheelchair accessible, a service alert will also be displayed. I know that sometimes we have detours or cancellations due to accidents. They can find out right away through the app,” Gomez said.

The launch of the public transport app is expected to have several positive impacts on the community.

With the Transit app, El Metro is taking a significant step toward modernizing public transportation in Laredo.

El Metro staff will also be available to help passengers download the app in the station lobby.
