Harry Potter Fan Club app is silently shutting down

A Wizarding World app disappeared yesterday without any announcement or warning posted anywhere other than the app itself.

Back in September 2019, Wizarding World Digital released an app for some countries with everything from the Wizarding World website, from a selection ceremony and a patronus test to quizzes and weekly features, as well as an official fan zine. The app was then made available to a global audience under this name Harry Potter Fan Club in 2021. A notice about this was posted in the app a few days ago “All good things must come to an end” stating that the app will be closed on October 1st with a final release of “Madam caused.”

All app content remains available on the Wizarding World website. The reason for the app's closure is uncertain, no reason is given in the post. However, the app has clearly not been a priority for some time, as until the end it was still only available in English, despite being available in non-English speaking countries such as France, Belgium and Switzerland. Many of the app's features, including the Sorting Hat test, were relaunched on the site earlier this year to include more languages.

The app was the first of two Wizarding World creations to drop this month. Harry Potter: Magic Awakens will be closing most of its servers later this month, even though its players received much more attention than users of Harry Potter Fan Club. The closure was announced in August to give fans a chance to play the game for one final season.
