Girona – Feyenoord 2:3: Girona scores two own goals and misses a penalty in the Champions League defeat

Girona scored two own goals and missed a penalty in their first Champions League home game.

The Spaniards took the lead in the 19th minute through 34-year-old defender David Lopez, but were pegged back four minutes later when Quinten Timber's header deflected in off Girona midfielder Yangel Herrera.

Teenager Antoni Milambo gave Feyenoord a 2-1 lead in the 33rd minute and the Dutch were awarded a penalty moments later for a foul on Timber, but goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga saved Ayase Ueda's penalty.

In the second half, Girona had a goal disallowed and then got a penalty of their own after Timon Wellenreuther fouled Bojan Miovski in the box, but the Feyenoord keeper retaliated by saving the former Aberdeen striker's penalty.

Donny van de Beek equalized for the hosts, scoring his first goal for the club since moving from Manchester United in the summer.

But Girona were denied their first point in the competition after their defender Ladislav Krejci turned Igor Paixao's cross into his own goal in the 79th minute.

Girona also lost to Paris St-Germain in their opening game of the Champions League after an own goal in the 90th minute.

With three, they equaled Fenerbahce's record for most own goals in a single Champions League season, but became the first team to score an own goal in their first two games in the competition.
