Los Alamos mountain bike team secures top spots at Manzano Mountain Madness on September 22 – Los Alamos Reporter

Los Alamos Mountain Bike Team

Ten members of the Los Alamos High School and Middle School mountain bike team competed in the Manzana Mountain Madness New Mexico Interscholastic Cycling League (NMICL) race at Oak Flats on Sunday, September 22nd. Located in the Manzanito Mountains east of Albuquerque, Oak Flats reached its peak with local Pinon and nearly 150 talented youth cyclists
from throughout the state of New Mexico. Spectators and fakers had plenty of action to capture

The middle school athletes were first at the starting line. Quanah Moseley (6th grade
Mountain Elementary School) maintained its lead and gained another lead in the leader's jersey
Top spot on the podium. Leif Wald-Hopkins (7th grade at Los Alamos Middle School) participated
The 7th grade boys race placed 14th. Dmitri Lawrence drove a single lap MS race and took first place in his first race of the season.

Hannah Waldenschmidt (eleventh grader at Los Alamos High School) competed in the HS one-lap race. Hannah climbed to the top of the podium in her first cycling race. Phoebe Reid (11th grade LAHS) advanced to the JV2 field and finished 5th on the podium.

Sebastian Koglin in the leader's jersey started from the JV1 field. Following the JV1 field were the JV2 athletes, which included Ian McLean, Calvin Grow and Adis Bock (tenth graders from LAHS). Ezra Kozimor (9th grade LAHS) advanced to 9th grade in his second race of the season. The HS boys team all finished in the top 10. Sebestian Koglin finished the JV1 race in 5th place. Ian McLean, Calvin Grow and Adis Bock finished the JV2 race in 2nd, 5th and 9th place respectively. Ezra Kozimor finished the 9th grade race in 9th place.

The next NMICL event will be October 12-13 at Pajarito Mountain. Community members are welcome to come out and support our local athletes. New athletes between 6th and 12th grade are welcome to join the LA mountain bike team and information is available
