120,000 Membership Rewards points Business Platinum upgrade offers (after $10,000 in purchases) for select cardholders

Many people find that their Business Green and Business Gold cards are eligible for an upgrade to the Business Platinum card, earning 120,000 points after spending $10,000 on purchases in the first three months after upgrading.

Update 10/2/24: The link we previously published no longer seems to work. Miles Earn and Burn reports a new link (and suggests that there may have been something shady about the previous link). We have replaced the link in the post below with the new link.

The deal

Quick thoughts

This is a very solid offer for those who can meet the spending requirements, and especially for those who already have or have had a Business Platinum card (and therefore may not be eligible for the new cardholder bonus). We sometimes see specifically new cardholder Business Platinum card offers that earn up to 250,000 Membership Rewards points after $20,000 in purchases (I wrote about where I found this offer last week), but this one Upgrade Offers can be attractive to many people because they don't require a new account and only require half the spending (with appropriate points award).

My wife and I have several Business Green and Gold cards that qualify to upgrade and receive these bonuses. We haven't decided on our strategy for these upgrade offers yet, but the ability to earn a ton of points without having to open a new account is certainly somewhat tempting. However, keep in mind that you'll have to pay for the Business Platinum card's annual fee (although of course you'll get the benefits like the airline incidental fee credit once per calendar year and the Dell benefit once before December 31st). 2024 and more).

Since my wife's account is showing the targeted $250,000 new cardholder offer, it might make more sense for her to apply through that offer first, as it offers the opportunity for 250,000 points with just a $695 annual fee would offer. However, if she tries this and gets the pop-up saying she is not eligible for the welcome bonus, it may make sense to consider upgrading to a Business Green or Business Gold card.

Overall, it's great to see Amex moving forward with its points parade, this time offering Business Green and Business Gold cardholders an incentive to consider upgrading.
