Shai Hope, Shamar Joseph and Hayley Matthews are among the WI players who have received multi-year deals

In an unprecedented move, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has awarded multi-year contracts to its top cricketers – both men and women – including men's ODI captain Shai Hope and women's white-ball captain Hayley Matthews.

This comes on the basis of a new four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between CWI and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) in January 2024. The contract period begins on October 1, 2024 for all players and ends on September 30, 2025 for those with a one-year contract, but on September 30, 2026 for the multi-year players.

“CWI is committed to having an open and honest dialogue with players and understanding practically the realities of the modern game,” Miles Bascombe, the board’s director of cricket, said in a statement. “The players have responded warmly and accepting multi-year contracts is a sign of clarity, trust and commitment on both sides. I would like to congratulate the entire contracting cohort on their achievements in the final evaluation period and I look forward to them building on this in the next part.”
Veteran fast bowler Kemar Roach, who does not appear to be on the contract list, is currently in talks to play a dual role as player and mentor as he prepares for the next phase of his career.
Batsman Kavem Hodge won his first central contract after scoring a crucial first innings of 71 in the West Indies' first Test win in Australia in 28 years in Brisbane in January. Hodge then scored his first Test hundred against England at Trent Bridge in July earlier this year.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Roston Chase was the only other new addition to the contract list. He was among the key players for the West Indies on their way to the Super Eight during the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, Tagearine Chanderpaul missed out on a central contract with the West Indies and will accept a franchise contract with the Guyana Harpy Eagles.
Among the players, all-rounder Ashmini Munisar received her first contract for the West Indies.
