The latest version of the Oura Ring is here.

Today, the company best known for its health tracking ring is launching its latest release, Oura Ring 4, starting at $349. The first is made entirely of titanium and designed with smart sensing technology and a new app experience. According to the company, it is a slimmer, more comfortable and more precise ring than previous versions. The ring can be pre-ordered from Thursday and will be delivered from October 15th. It is available in six colors including brushed silver, gold, rose gold, silver, stealth and black.

“Oura Ring is designed to be a personal health companion, giving our members a holistic view of their health by combining personal data with meaningful, actionable insights to enable long-term change,” Tom Hale, CEO of Oura, said in a statement. “The next-generation Oura Ring 4, the reimagined Oura app and the development of the Smart Sensing platform represent significant advances for wearables in accuracy, comfort, personalization and design. We are committed to continuing our relentless pace of innovation and the Delivering exceptional value to Oura members.”

Since Oura's launch, some customers and non-customers alike have commented on the size of the ring, often calling it a disadvantage. The ring is significantly slimmer and has smaller sensors that don't add extra charge to the inside of the ring like previous versions did.

The ability to reduce ring size is thanks to Oura's latest Smart Sensing technology, which combines an algorithm and the wearable's sensors. The new ring's sensors increase signal paths from eight to 18 to ensure the most accurate and effective path is used for tracking across the entire perimeter. These sensors also allow for more accurate tracking of all skin tones. According to the team, this sensing approach also improves battery life, extending the life of an Oura Ring from seven to eight days.

“After years of development, smart sensing is the future of health sensing and sets a new standard of accuracy,” said Holly Shelton, chief product officer at Oura, in a statement. “We designed Oura Ring 4 to be lifeproof – it's easy to create technology that works under optimal conditions but doesn't reflect real life. With Smart Sensing, Oura Ring 4 takes into account the ring rotation that occurs naturally during daily activities, as well as differences in finger anatomy, shape, BMI and skin tone.”

Additionally, Oura will introduce its new app experience, which will be available to all Ring users and includes several requested features, including automatic activity recognition for 40 workouts, including gardening and dancing. Previously, the ring could only detect a small number of training sessions, otherwise the user had to make entries themselves or activate heart rate detection in real time.

Most importantly, the app will now be divided into three sections: “Today,” which gives users everything they should know at that point in time and shows snapshots of the results at the top; “Vitals,” which offers a more detailed look at each industry, and “My Health,” which examines longer-term data points such as cardiovascular age and stress resilience.
