Lionel Messi scores twice as Inter Miami wins MLS Supporters' Shield for the first time

The trophy is Messi's 46th silver medal in his illustrious career for club and country.

By taking top spot in the standings, Miami secured home-field advantage in the postseason play-offs.

“The first goal has been achieved and now we have to think about what comes next,” Messi said.

“In the first round it's three games, but then it's one game and anything can happen. But we have the great advantage of being able to play whatever games we wanted at home. We are very strong at home.”

Miami needs two wins from its final two league games to break the MLS record for most points in a regular season, which currently stands at 73, set by the New England Revolution in 2021.
