Man charged in shooting near New Bedford housing development

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford police arrested a man after a shooting Blue Meadows Housing Development last week.

20-year-old Tyler Pratt was arrested on multiple charges, both related to the original shooting and those arising from his arrest.

Pratt faces charges including assault and battery by discharging a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, receiving a stolen motor vehicle and carrying a loaded firearm with an illegible serial number.

On September 24, a shooting occurred in the Blue Meadows housing development in which two victims were struck by gunfire.

An arrest warrant was issued for Pratt during an investigation.

On October 1, around 4:30 p.m., police observed Pratt at the intersection of Cottage Street and Durfee.

Police said when Pratt approached him, he reached into his waistband and fled the scene.

Officers said they observed him running toward Austin St. with a gun in his hand.

Pratt allegedly threw the firearm over a nearby fence and was taken into custody.

The pistol he allegedly threw away turned out to be a Glock 30, along with a magazine and nine .45-caliber rounds.

The serial number was allegedly obscured.

Pratt was also allegedly in possession of a Percocet tablet.

Pratt was reportedly on probation in New Bedford District Court at the time of this arrest.
