West Virginia vs. Oklahoma State score predictions

West Virginia is looking to get a big win against Oklahoma State this Saturday and improve to 2-0 in Big 12 play before returning to Morgantown for a two-game homestand with two Top 25 opponents Wait on deck.

The Cowboys have their backs against the wall after an 0-2 start in league play, losing to Utah and Kansas State in consecutive weeks. The last time they started the Big 12 portion of their schedule 0-3 was 2005, Mike Gundy's first year in charge.

Who will win this Saturday? Here's what we see.

This is without a doubt a winnable game for the Mountaineers. From the day the schedule came out, I pointed out that WVU couldn't have met Oklahoma State at a better time, as this game features two physical games against Utah and Kansas State as WVU is coming off a bye week has. What I didn't expect is that the Cowboys would lose both games and are now in danger of losing three games in a row in their first league game, which would essentially knock them out of contention.

I've learned my lesson. I'm no longer writing Mike Gundy off after slow starts. Every time you start to think this is the year they won't turn things around, they do. I wouldn't be shocked in the least if OSU had a 10-2 record and was playing for the Big 12 Championship at the end of the year. I'm not asking for it, but Gundy knows how to turn his team around when they're backed into a corner.

Neal Brown, on the other hand, struggled to instill the same level of confidence in me. Since joining WVU in 2019, he has a road record of 10-19.

I'm aware that Ollie Gordon II hasn't produced at the same level or anywhere near as much as he did a year ago, but it's coming. Even if it doesn't happen this week, the Cowboys will be able to take advantage of a really weak Mountaineers secondary and sling the ball all over the court.

It will be a high-profile affair, but one WVU falls on the wrong side.

Prediction record: 3-1.

Oklahoma State lost its first two Big 12 Conference games for the first time since 2005, and I suspect a Mike Gundy-led team will come out of it with momentum.

The Cowboys' ground game has struggled in the first five games, averaging just over 100 yards per game, and reigning Big 12 Player of the Year running back Ollie Gordon II averaged just 66 last season .8 ypg. And if there was to be a breakout game for the junior, it would be against the Mountaineers, as he rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns a year ago in Morgantown.

West Virginia had a bye last week and questions remain in the secondary, although it looked like the Mountaineers had worked out some kinks in their last game against Kansas, and like Gordon, Bowman could be ready after a tough start in the Big 12 getting back into the rhythm despite averaging 307.4 yards per game through the air.

On offense, the Mountaineers failed to find consistency, but when they played fast, especially during the two-minute drill, they moved the ball with ease. If West Virginia can find some consistency, the Mountaineers may be able to pull out a win.

West Virginia has struggled against Oklahoma State since joining the Big 12, and I suspect the Mountaineers' struggles will continue in Stillwater with the Cowboys picking up their first league win of the season, 27-24.

Prediction record: 2-2.
